Members of Parliament Middendorp and Nijkerken on a Work Visit in Kerkrade

The members of the 2nd Chamber of the Dutch Parliament Jan Middendorp and Chantal Nijkerken visited the Eurode Business Center (EBC) on January 18, 2018, where they received current information from Deputy Dion Schneider about the successes of cross-border cooperation, particularly on the topic of job placement.

For years, pioneering work in the field of cross-border cooperation has been carried out at the EBC on Nieuwstraat at the German-Dutch border. The representatives visited the first Border Information Point (GIP), where people can turn with questions about cross-border issues. Deputy Schneider explained the Cross-border Employment Service Point (SGA) project as the responsible politician. In the SGA, the municipality, the province, and ITEM cooperate together with the Dutch Employment Office UWV, the German Employment Agency, the Employer Service Point Parkstad (WSP), and the Social Welfare Office Maastricht – Heuvelland (Podium 24), as well as the Job Center StädteRegion Aachen, to find work for welfare recipients in the neighboring country, for example. The first SGA was founded in Kerkrade. A second SGA in Maastricht will soon focus on the Belgian labor market.

The aim was to make the representatives aware that important initiatives like the GIP and the SGA should be maintained and even strengthened. “The euregional cooperation in the South Limburg region is leading and innovative and thus exemplary for other regions,” said Deputy Schneider. “Therefore, during the working visit, the necessity of not only structurally financing existing initiatives but also placing them under joint administrative leadership was also explicitly emphasized. The request to both representatives to draw attention to this in The Hague was thus well conveyed.”
